Tuttle Girl’s Wrestling started in 2020-2021

Head Coach Kristen Finn (2020-2025)

Every successful wrestling program begins with a vision, a willingness to build from the ground up, and a coach committed to creating opportunities for the next generation. Coach Kristen Finn played that role in the development of Tuttle High School girls’ wrestling. During her tenure from the 2020–2021 season through the 2024–2025 season, Finn helped transform a small, developing group of female wrestlers into a competitive team that earned recognition on the state stage. Her leadership established an important foundation for the future of Lady Tiger Wrestling.

Building a Program from the Ground Up

When Coach Finn began leading the girls’ wrestling program, Tuttle had only one or two individual female wrestlers participating in its first year. Building a competitive team required more than technical instruction. It meant growing participation, developing athletes, establishing team culture, and creating a pathway for girls to compete and succeed in a sport with a rich tradition at Tuttle.

Through her dedication and leadership, Finn helped grow the program into a complete team with a full varsity lineup. What began with just a handful of athletes developed into a team capable of competing with established programs across Oklahoma.

That growth represents one of the most meaningful parts of her legacy. By creating opportunities for more girls to experience wrestling, Finn helped expand the Tuttle wrestling family and ensured that future Lady Tigers would have a stronger foundation on which to build.

Making History for Tuttle Girls’ Wrestling

One of the defining milestones of Finn’s tenure came in 2021, when Rayleigh Fisher became the first female wrestler in Tuttle High School history to qualify for the OSSAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament, competing at 147 pounds.

Fisher’s qualification marked a historic first for the school and established a new benchmark for the developing program. Her achievement represented the culmination of hard work and the beginning of a new chapter in Tuttle wrestling history.

Under Finn’s guidance, the program continued to develop state qualifiers and state tournament placers. As the roster grew and the athletes gained experience, the Lady Tigers began establishing themselves as a team capable of making a meaningful impact at the state level.

These individual accomplishments reflected the progress of the entire program and demonstrated what could be achieved through consistent coaching, athlete development, and a commitment to creating opportunities.

A Breakthrough Team Finish in 2025

Finn’s final season as head coach brought one of the program’s most significant team accomplishments. At the 2025 OSSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships, the Lady Tigers earned a top-six team finish, highlighting the progress made during her tenure.

The result was a testament to the growth of the program, from its beginnings with just one or two individual wrestlers to a full varsity lineup competing among Oklahoma’s top teams.

A team finish of that caliber requires contributions from wrestlers throughout the lineup, each playing a role in the program’s overall success. The 2025 result demonstrated how far Tuttle girls’ wrestling had advanced and provided a strong platform for the coaches and athletes who would carry the program forward.

Recognized for Building Something Special

Coach Finn’s ability to develop a program from its earliest stages earned recognition from the Oklahoma wrestling community. She was voted Regional Coach of the Year for Girls Wrestling, honoring her work to grow participation, develop athletes, and establish a competitive team.

The recognition reflected the significance of her contribution. Building a program from scratch requires patience, planning, and a belief in what athletes can accomplish. Finn helped turn that belief into measurable progress, giving Tuttle girls’ wrestling a stronger presence in Oklahoma high school competition.

A Lasting Legacy in Tuttle

Coach Kristen Finn’s tenure represents a foundational chapter in the history of Tuttle girls’ wrestling. She helped grow the roster, guided the program’s first-ever female state qualifier, developed multiple state qualifiers and placers, and led the Lady Tigers to a top-six state team finish in 2025.

Her impact extends beyond individual results and tournament standings. She helped create an environment where more girls could become wrestlers, represent Tuttle, and pursue accomplishments that had never before been possible for the school’s female athletes.

The program she helped build stands as a reminder that championship traditions do not appear overnight. They begin with coaches willing to invest in athletes, develop a team, and lay the groundwork for future success.

Thank you, Coach Finn, for your dedication to Tuttle girls’ wrestling and for helping build the foundation of the Lady Tigers program. Your leadership created opportunities, made school history, and helped establish a team capable of competing among Oklahoma’s best. The progress achieved during your tenure will remain an important part of Tuttle Wrestling history and a foundation for the generations of Lady Tigers who follow.

Head Coach Shane Head (2025-Present)

Tuttle Wrestling’s championship tradition has been built by coaches who understand what it means to wear the Tiger singlet, compete for state titles, and dedicate themselves to the next generation of athletes. Coach Shane Head embodies that tradition. A former Tuttle state champion with decades of coaching experience, Head has played an important role in the program for years and now leads the next chapter of Tuttle girls’ wrestling as head coach of the Lady Tigers.

From Tuttle Champion to Coach

Coach Head is a proud Tuttle High School alumnus who experienced the program’s championship culture firsthand as a competitor. Wrestling for the legendary Tuttle boys’ program, he captured Class 3A individual state championships at 130 pounds in 1990 and 136 pounds in 1991.

Those back-to-back state titles established Head as one of Tuttle’s accomplished wrestlers and gave him a firsthand understanding of the dedication, discipline, and perseverance required to reach the top of the podium.

After his own wrestling career, Head continued serving the sport that had shaped him. His journey from Tuttle wrestler to longtime coach reflects the kind of commitment that has sustained the Tigers’ success across generations.

Years of Coaching and Service to Tuttle

Before becoming the head coach of the girls’ wrestling program, Head was a familiar presence throughout the Tuttle wrestling community. From the 2009–2010 season through 2021, he served as a longtime assistant coach under Oklahoma Hall of Fame coach Matt Surber.

During those years, Head contributed to a program that continued to establish itself as one of Oklahoma’s premier high school wrestling powers. His experience working alongside Surber gave him valuable insight into developing athletes, building team unity, and maintaining the championship standards associated with Tuttle Wrestling.

Head’s coaching experience also extends beyond wrestling. He successfully led the Tuttle girls’ golf program for multiple years, demonstrating his versatility as a coach and his commitment to supporting student-athletes across different sports.

Leading the Lady Tigers

Ahead of the 2025–2026 school year, Coach Head was officially named head coach of the Tuttle Tigers girls’ wrestling program. His appointment marked an important step in his coaching journey, allowing him to lead a new generation of Lady Tigers while continuing the tradition he helped uphold for years.

His first season brought encouraging results at the Class 5A State Championships, where multiple Tuttle wrestlers achieved the highest state placements in program history at the time.

Freshman Ayva Perez earned third place at 135 pounds, while Liz McLeroy captured fourth place at 120 pounds. Their performances highlighted the potential of the Lady Tigers and demonstrated the progress the program was making under Head’s leadership.

These results provided a strong foundation for the future of Tuttle girls’ wrestling. With an experienced coach guiding the program and young athletes continuing to develop, the Lady Tigers have an opportunity to build upon these milestones and establish their own lasting championship tradition.

Coach Shane Head’s story reflects a lifelong connection to Tuttle Athletics. From winning state championships as a Tiger wrestler to helping lead the boys’ program as an assistant and now guiding the girls’ wrestling team, he has remained committed to the school and community that shaped his own athletic journey.

His leadership brings together championship experience, years of coaching knowledge, and a genuine investment in student-athletes. The early accomplishments of the Lady Tigers under his direction offer an exciting glimpse of what the program can continue to achieve.
